Redemption?

Michael Vick has signed with the Eagles. I think the man deserves another chance. Any strong feelings on the issue?

I agree with you. I do get confused about the Dante Stallworth case though. A man is dead, he was legally drunk ... but he spends 30 days in jail? There must be more than meets the eye to that case. Or better yet, Plaxico Burress shoots himself in the thigh and may serve more time than Vick, who is responsible for the deaths of dogs and running an illegal racket ... again, maybe I am missing details ...

I think that the Stallworth issue came down to monetary matters. I think the prosecutor probably had some leeway and felt that it was more appropriate for the family to receive monetary compensation, which would be that much harder if he was in prison. He's lost his drivers license for life and is on two year house arrest as well. And he is suspended without pay for the 2009 season by the NFL.

The Plaxico case bugs me because the penalty for him is not based on the self-injury at all, but on New York's punitive firearms laws. He will pay a much higher penalty for carrying the gun into NYC than he will for discharging it. Still, he was an idiot for doing it.

The only reason Vick did any real time was for the racketeering. At least that is what made it federal.

I agree that the Stallworth issue came down to money ... but that is what makes me sick. The other thing that ate me up was watching an ESPN legal analyst praise Stallworths attorneys for "doing such a great job." Yeah, great.

Anyway, with Vick, I think he deserves to play again. I'm fine with that. What surprises me is that dude doesn't play organized football for two years and yet teams were foaming at the mouth. I think it will take him a while to contribute, regardless of how long his suspension lasts. Besides, in terms of a PR issue ... I think once the seasons get going Vicks story will slide back to newer headlines and won't be a big deal at all.
